Support: Tips for Using BizInt Smart Charts

Using the Version 4.0 alpha

The 4.0 alpha software for both BizInt Smart Charts for Drug Pipelines and BizInt Smart Charts for Patents can be used to:

  • set up your rules for generating reference rows
  • generate reference rows
  • review and change the selected cells in a reference row
  • export a report with reference rows to HTML

We recommend that you create and customize your report in Version 3.3 and run the Generate Common Drug Name or the Identify Common Patent Family tool before working with the report in the Version 4.0 alpha.

Using the Version 4.0 Alpha

  1. Save your Smart Charts file in Version 3.3 and then open it in the Version 4.0 alpha. You must run the Generate Common Drug Name or the Identify Common Patent Family tool on the chart before opening it in 4.0 alpha.
  2. Under the "4.0 Beta" menu, select Cell Selection Rules
  3. The Default Rule is used to select cells when no specific column rule is applicable, or in case of ties. The most important part of the Default Rule is the ranking of databases within the chart. The initial order is based on the order the databases were listed when you created the combined chart.
  4. Double click a column name (or choose Reference Row Rules from the right mouse menu in that column) to bring up the Cell Selection Rule panel for that column. The "Based on" drop down menu is not active at this time.
  5. Once you have selected your rules, select "Create Reference Rows" from the 4.0 Beta menu.
  6. You will see a panel telling you how many reference rows have been created and a new chart view. Diagonal marks on the upper right corner of a cell means that cell will appear in the reference row.
  7. To change the selected cell for a reference row, select the cell you want, hold down the right mouse button, and choose "Select this cell" from the menu.
  8. After you have created Reference Rows, you can change your rules and the Reference Row selections will be re-created.
  9. To export the reference row report, select "Export as Reference Rows" from the 4.0 Beta menu and provide the .htm file name. Export options are not yet available for 4.0 HTML export.
